Living here
I love living in the mountains of western North Carolina, or more specifically in the Highlands and Cashiers area. The 4,000 feet elevation brings us cool nights in the summer and just enough snow in the winter to make the landscape look like a fairy tale. The towns of Highlands and Cashiers offer gourmet restaurants, art galleries, a variety of accommodations and lots of outdoor activities. There are several hiking trails including Whiteside Mountain, Sunset and Glen Falls. We enjoy numerous waterfalls, including Dry Falls and Whitewater Falls which is just across the South Carolina line. The quaintness of the area makes it a great getaway for day tourists as well as seasonal residents.
